2nd National Obesity Scientific Conference (NOSC 2026)

The Malaysian Obesity Society (MYOS) successfully hosted the 2nd National Obesity Scientific Conference (NOSC 2026) on 11–12 April 2026 at the Connexion Conference & Event Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Guided by the theme “Obesity as a Treatable Chronic Disease: Science, Strategy and Success,” the conference brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and stakeholders dedicated to advancing obesity care in Malaysia.

The conference saw strong engagement, with over 500 delegates in attendance and an impressive 92.9% attendance rate, reflecting the growing recognition of obesity as a critical public health concern . Participants included a diverse mix of medical professionals and allied health practitioners, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing obesity effectively.

In line with the conference theme, the organising committee also took the initiative to review and curate the event menu to ensure it reflected principles of a healthy and balanced diet, reinforcing the importance of practical lifestyle measures in obesity management.

NOSC 2026 featured a robust scientific programme comprising keynote lectures, plenary sessions, symposiums, panel discussions, and debates. The sessions explored a wide range of topics, including emerging therapies, lifestyle and behavioural interventions, mental health considerations, and advancements in pharmacological and surgical management. This comprehensive programme provided delegates with practical insights and up-to-date knowledge
applicable to both clinical practice and public health initiatives.

A total of 94 abstracts were submitted, covering both oral and poster presentations from institutions across Malaysia and internationally . These contributions showcased ongoing efforts  in clinical research, community-based interventions, and healthcare delivery, reflecting the continued growth of obesity-related research in the region applicable to both clinical practice and public health initiatives. The accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Clinical and Health Sciences. Excellence in research was recognised through the presentation of Best Oral and Best Poster Awards across clinical and paraclinical categories. The awarded studies addressed important areas such as dietary interventions, metabolic health, workplace wellness programmes, and obesity-related complications, underscoring the breadth of innovation within the field.

In addition to the scientific sessions, the conference provided valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration. Delegates engaged with peers, experts, and industry partners, fostering meaningful connections that support the advancement of multidisciplinary care and strengthen the obesity management landscape in Malaysia.
